Step inside Tufting House and watch as balls of yarn transform into colorful creations. The concept is called tufting, a type of textile weaving used to make things like hats, gloves, coasters, and rugs. If you’re an avid TikToker, you might have spotted some tufting videos on your feed, which is how Tufting House owner Alex Antonio stumbled upon it during the height of the pandemic. Intrigued, she decided to take a class and fell in love. She opened her Fort Lauderdale outpost in October with help from partners Amanda Antonio and Jorge Parrado. “Our mission is to provide the community with a creative outlet while providing a high-level experience,” she says.

Tufting House specializes in rugs. Before class, participants can choose from a gallery of provided designs or pick one online. A standard class runs for four hours (shorter options are also available) and includes a demo on how to use the tufting gun before getting to work on your rug, which is also glued and trimmed before you leave class. Don’t miss out on upcoming themed classes offering designs inspired by Harry Potter, sneakers, and Valentine’s Day. Head online for more info and the full schedule.
