Thousands of walkers and runners will make strides in the ongoing fight against drunk driving during the 10th Annual Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K, presented by Ultimate Kronos Group, UBS Financial Services, and the Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County. Runners and walkers can participate in the socially distanced in-person race on Sunday, April 25, at Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale or participate virtually from April 25 to May 9. Proceeds from the event will benefit MADD Broward County’s mission to end drunk driving.

All participants will log their miles using the RaceJoy App. For the in-person race, MADD will follow all CDC guidelines, including social distancing, timed start waves, and mask-wearing at all times other than on the race course.

Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale is a community-driven 5K that raises awareness about drunk driving and underage drinking. Since its inception in 2011, this event has raised more than $2 million for local initiatives to to save lives and support victims of drunk driving. Every dollar donated remains in the South Florida community to provide victims’ services and prevention education at no cost.

“Drunk driving is still the deadliest killer on our nation’s roadways, claiming more than 10,000 lives and injuring more than 350,000 innocent people each year,” said MADD National Chairwoman Heather Geronemus. “Our goal is to raise awareness and funds so that we can see a future with no more victims.”

Her late father, Dr. Robert Perry Geronemus, was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2009. “Thank you to our sponsors, participants, and donors who have supported Walk Like MADD & MADD Dash Fort Lauderdale 5K over the past 10 years so that we can provide free victim services and prevention education in South Florida. We are thrilled to be back and offer walkers and runners safe options to participate and make a difference in a meaningful cause, whether it’s the socially distanced in-person race or the virtual race.”

Event sponsors include Signature Sponsor UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group), Title Sponsor UBS Financial Services, Presenting Sponsor Sheriff’s Foundation of Broward County, State Safety Champion Sponsor Alert Today Florida, and Corporate Champion Sponsor La Croix.
