South Florida Symphony Orchestra Unveils Summer Series

Beat the heat by escaping into the serene sounds of the Summer Chamber Music Series from May 18 through July 21

South Florida Symphony Orchestra will invite audiences to beat the heat by escaping into the serene sounds of the Summer Chamber Music Series from May 18 through July 21. The series will offer music lovers a chance to enjoy the classics in more personal, intimate atmospheres in both Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

May’s “Sultry Nights” program will present the romance of Franz Joseph Haydn’s famed Piano Trio No. 39 in G major, beloved for its fiery Hungarian-style finale; Joaquín Turina Pérez’s sparkling, crisp Piano Trio No. 2 Op. 76 in B minor; and Felix Mendelssohn’s virtuosic Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor, Op. 66. Musicians Huifang Chen on violin, Christopher Glandsdorp on cello, and Catherine Lan on piano, will perform at 7:30 p.m. on May 18, at Coral Gables Congregational Church and at 7:30 pm. on Friday, May 19, at the Center for Spiritual Living Fort Lauderdale.

In June, enjoy “The Perfect Pairing” with Antonín Leopold Dvořák’s Piano Quintet No. 2 in A major, b. 155, Op. 81 and Robert Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E flat major, Op. 44., performed by Chen on first violin, Aleksandr Zhuk on second violin, Felicia Besan on viola, Glansdorp on cello, and Tao Lin on piano, at 7:30 p.m. on June 15, at Temple Israel of Greater Miami and at 7:30 p.m. on June 16, at Center for Spiritual Living Fort Lauderdale.

Discover “The Legend and the Hidden Gem” in July. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Quartet No. 2 in E flat major, K. 493 will be performed along with Charles-Camille Saint-Saëns’ magnificent Piano Quartet in B flat major, Op. 41, the most treasured of his works, by Chen, Besan, Lan, and Claudio Jaffe on cello, at 7:30 p.m. on July 20, at Barry University and July 21, at Center for Spiritual Living Fort Lauderdale.
