Mission United Distributes Backpacks and Meals to Military Families

The United Way of Broward County teamed up with the Miami Dolphins Foundation to distribute 400 backpacks filled with school supplies and meals to families

The United Way of Broward County’s Mission United, an initiative that supports military service members, veterans, and their families, partnered with The Castle Group and Miami Dolphins Foundation to distribute more than 400 backpacks filled with school supplies and meals to military and veteran families on Wednesday, August 5. The backpacks were handed out at United Way of Broward County’s Colker Center via drive-through to maintain social distancing. The donated backpacks will help to alleviate the financial burden many families face at the start of the new school year.

The backpacks’ contents included notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, highlighters, crayons, glue, folders, index cards, scissors, erasers, and more. Backpack donations were courtesy of The Castle Group and community donors. In addition, The Miami Dolphins Foundation sponsored meals, catered by S & J Catering, on a first come, first serve basis. The dinner meals were packaged to-go and placed in the trunk of each military family’s vehicle.
