The Salvation Army of Broward County’s fourth annual Kettle Krush 5K, presented by PwC, will return to Quiet Waters Park in Deerfield Beach on Saturday, July 24, at 7 a.m. Hunter Franqui, host of WPLG Local 10’s SoFlo Health, will host the iconic Christmas-in-July-themed event. For those in South Florida and beyond who wish to participate from home, a virtual option is available. Registration is open here.
“The Salvation Army is thrilled to return to the race path this summer,” said Major Stephen Long, area commander for The Salvation Army of Broward County. “We’re getting in the holiday spirit early to help our community return to prosperity and wellness while raising critical funds to help our neighbors in need.”
The Salvation Army serves more than 50,000 Broward County residents each year, with 70 percent of its funding derived directly from the individuals, community groups, and local businesses.
The race is named for The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettles, which are staffed during the holidays to collect funds for families in need. In November and December of 2020, The Salvation Army raised $320,215, a more than 33 percent increase over the same period in 2019.
The racecourse at Quiet Waters Park is sanctioned by USA Track & Field, and the race will be timed by AccuChipUSA, Inc. Awards will be given to runners in “Top 3” categories and age groups. Each participant will receive commemorative race t-shirt.
Registration costs $10 for children ages 2 to 8; $25 for children ages 9 to 18; and $30 for participants aged 19 and older. Team registration costs $20 per person for teams of five or more. Quiet Waters Park’s entry fee will be waived for all participants and parking will be free.
