The Fired Up Competition is underway! South Florida is booming with incredible culinary talent and Society 8 Hospitality wants to give one lucky chef the tools they need to launch their concept and succeed in this fast-paced food and hospitality industry. The winning concept will receive a kiosk at Sistrunk Marketplace, along with critical one-on-one mentorship from thought leaders in various industries including food, hospitality, marketing, and design strategy for the branded kiosk. Assistance with all startup costs will also be awarded!

“We are very excited to experience South Florida’s hidden culinary talent and to bring something unique to the Fort Lauderdale food scene,” said Steven Dapuzzo, with Society 8 Hospitality. “Our mission is to identify a talented up-and-coming chef and provide them with the tools they need to succeed in this fast-paced food industry.”

Local chefs had the opportunity to submit their “buzz-worthy concept” on the Fired-Up Competition website through May 3. The first phase will begin with an online voting portion where the public can vote for their favorite food concepts. During this portion of the event, the public is encouraged to share in the excitement by posting their favorite Chef concepts and using the hashtag #FiredUpChallenge across social media.

The top 20 finalists will compete during three live voting rounds: Taste, Presentation, and Sales. These will take place in front of a live audience and an esteemed panel of judges that include local notables and South Florida food journalists from local media outlets. Judges include: Mike Mayo, host of Mike Mayo’s Lunchbox; Matt Meltzer, contributor to Thrillist; Dana Rozansky of @Miami_FoodPorn; Jesse Scott, contributor at Miami New Times; Laine Doss, food and spirits editor at Miami New Times; Nick Pena of @TheFoode; Joanna Wurmann, director at Mujer y Punto; Taylor Dante of TAYstyTravels; Andrea Grieco, food photographer; and Paul Aceto, private chef and owner of Silver Spoon Events.

The judging rounds will take place at Sistrunk Marketplace at 7 p.m. on May 17, May 24, and Tuesday May 31. The winner will be announced on June 2, at Fort Lauderdale’s Sistrunk Marketplace & Brewery.
