Poet Shay Richardson (aka Eccentrich) founded the Pompano Beach Exit 36 Slam Poetry Festival in 2018. Taking place December 9-11 at various cultural venues including the Pompano Beach Cultural Center, the event will welcome poets from across the country. Actor and poet Malcolm-Jamal Warner (of The Cosby Show and current hit The Resident) will be a guest judge and will also perform and deliver an artist talk. “I was born and raised here, so it was very important to me that I leave something with my city,” says Richardson. “[Slam poetry] is important because everybody deserves to tell their story and experiences, and spoken word allows one to do so without judgment or refute.”
