The Dan Marino Foundation and Walgreens will present 1.3 With Me for Autism, a virtual run/walk fundraiser, from April 2-13 in honor of World Autism Awareness Day (Friday, April 2) and World Autism Month. Participants can complete their 1.3 mile run or walk at their own pace in teams or individually to raise awareness about autism.
Local schools from pre-kindergarten to twelfth grade can create teams to help raise funds for special needs programming. Twenty percent of what a school raises will go back to the school’s special needs programming if a minimum of $250 is raised. Every dollar raised through this effort benefits the Dan Marino Foundation’s work with South Florida’s autism community. Individual tickets for 1.3 With Me for Autism cost $25.
The foundation will also invite South Florida’s iconic buildings and homes to “Go Blue” (the internationally-recognized color for autism) in honor of Autism Awareness Day on April 2. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Guitar Hotel, downtown Fort Lauderdale’s Bank of America Building, and the Freedom Tower in Downtown Miami have committed to raising awareness by lighting their buildings in blue. Supporters are encouraged to join the Dan Marino Foundation by lighting their homes or businesses in blue and are encouraged to share images of participating buildings and individuals on social media tagging the Dan Marino Foundation on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter and use the hashtag #DMFwearsblue.
