Delray Beach’s Yellowtail Modern Asian Cuisine And Sushi Serves Contemporary Twist On Japanese Cuisine

Steamed American Red Snapper

The Japanese word omakase translates to, “I’ll leave it up to you.” It’s also a wise thing to order at Yellowtail Modern Asian Cuisine and Sushi because the man behind the menu items is chef and owner Andrew Rothschild. He, along with his team of sushi chefs, will present a tasting of exotic, specialty items such as aji, a Japanese horse mackerel. “It’s an extraordinarily sweet, fatty and tasty fish,” Rothschild says. With partner Michael Turetzky, the duo opened the modern Asian eatery last spring, bringing a casual-but-upscale restaurant just west of Atlantic Avenue.

Rothschild needs no introduction; the Jersey-born chef honed in on his skills at The Breakers Palm Beach and worked as executive chef at numerous restaurants across the nation, including South Florida’s The Forge, Tsunami and Bourbon Steak. He’s also a two-time recipient of Esquire Magazine’s “Best New Restaurant in America” title, earning the honor at his first restaurant, The Marc in Chicago, and again during his time with the Naples, Florida, restaurant Annabelle’s.

On the Menu

A meal at Yellowtail will include flavors from Japan, Thailand and China, with dishes prepared using French techniques like the Honey Glazed Spare Ribs, which are first cooked sous vide then charbroiled.

We recommend ordering the crispy Brussels sprouts and bok choy in an orange demi miso glaze. “It’s sweet, salty, buttery, crispy—all in one bite,” Rothschild says of the restaurant favorite.

Even better, the fish is flown in daily from all around the world—think ahi tuna from the Galápagos Islands and kingfish from Japan—and turned into favorites like the Candy Yellowtail or Maine Lobster Master Chef Rolls and the Ahi Tuna Takataki.

Make no mistake—Yellowtail isn’t just for fish. With Rothschild’s experience at the finest steakhouses around, he serves up some darn good filets, too. You can also order crispy duck with stir-fry vegetables in a Thai chili sauce, to specialties from the wok, including Pad Se-Ew and Fusion Rice with your choice of protein.
