When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping. And for South Floridians, retail therapy can be found at Etiquette Boutique. It’s the new storefront at Boca Raton’s University Commons. Good news for fashionistas: there are also two locations in Fort Lauderdale, plus a newly opened spot in Palm Beach Gardens.
Owner David Harris is often asked how he ended up in retail. “It wasn’t necessarily a life’s pursuit of mine,” he says. “It literally found me.” Having left a career in finance, Harris teamed up with his friends Max and Jen Khazanov to open a series of boutiques in his hometown of Nashville.
“While Nashville is an amazing city, I had always wanted to move to South Florida,” Harris says. An easygoing lifestyle was calling, so Harris made the move and opened the first Etiquette Boutique in Fort Lauderdale in 2012. With two successful Fort Lauderdale shops, Etiquette’s newest addition arrived in November ready to clothe Boca Raton locals.
The Collection
Shop the Etiquette label collection for trendy clothing ahead of the game, and find hard-to-come-by pieces that will take you from the beach to drinks and everywhere in between. The boutique also offers women several high-end lines, including For Love & Lemons, one of the store’s most highly requested brands. There’s also Amuse Society, Free People, One Teaspoon and Signature jeans.
Keeping It Classy
Having lived in Nashville for a significant part of his life, Harris felt it was only appropriate to name the boutique “Etiquette” based on the values he grew up with. By wearing the Etiquette label, shoppers can attract the attention that will make them feel good, all while keeping in mind that, “Being proper, being polite, respecting yourself and respecting other people is still something that will carry you through life,” he says.
Shoppers, rejoice!
Etiquette brings in 60 to 70 different styles of clothing a week on average, so there’s almost always a new selection to peruse during each visit. “You buy it, and you’re pretty insulated about running into somebody else wearing the same thing,” Harris says.
In addition to shopping for oneself, shopping for others is made easy. There’s something to fit the bill for birthdays, engagements, house warming parties and more. Etiquette also offers a loyalty program called Etiquette Bucks with which 10 percent of shoppers’ bills go toward future purchases, good for two weeks.
“If somebody stops in here, they’re glad they did,” Harris says. “I know that we’re all getting pulled in multiple directions and everybody shops online all the time, which I certainly understand—I do it all the time—but there’s no real substitute for retail therapy.”
