Delray Shores Pharmacy and Soda Fountain Makes Picking Up Prescriptions Fun

No longer are trips to the pharmacy just about picking up prescriptions. At Delray Shores Pharmacy and Soda Fountain, husband-and-wife owners T.J. and Rhyan Dildine have brought a piece of the good old days back to life with their new venture that’s part pharmacy and part retail. Oh, and there’s even a soda fountain for guests to enjoy treats reminiscent of nearly a century ago.

A TRANSFORMATION

The original Delray Shores Pharmacy stood just west of Congress Avenue in 1975 when T.J.’s late father, Thom, and his mom, Carol, opened up shop. T.J. took over the family business after becoming a pharmacist and decided to expand the company’s services. As a practiced lawyer, Rhyan took a hiatus to launch the from-scratch location with an art-deco vibe in downtown Delray Beach. Inside are all of your go-to pharmaceutical needs, and then some.

EGG CREAM, ANYONE?

“People would come to fountains to heal,” Rhyan says of the soda fountain era. “They’d see their pharmacist and feel better. They’d get drinks and sodas to try to help them.” A row of barstools sits next to an all-white countertop with the tools and ingredients for some serious throwback treats.

Guests can stop by for happy hour daily from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. to try the newly launched 21 and older “adulting menu” featuring a selection of craft beer milkshakes, floats and even ones made with CBD oil.

But that’s not all. There is also a menu for those wanting a quick and easy breakfast or lunch fix. A must is the made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits paired with butter and jam, or made into a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich.

RETAIL DYNAMIC

As parents to two young children, T.J. and Rhyan wanted to make sure they offered customers an array of new mother and baby items they feel confident using themselves—products they had trouble finding around town locally, like cloth diapers.

But more than baby items, shoppers can stop in for a bottle of wine or beer, pick up a hostess gift, grab a Blue Mountain birthday card and even take something home for four-legged friends.
