At The Webster’s Outlet Store In Sawgrass, Last Month’s Designer Looks Become A Bargain Shopper’s Fantasy

Thanks to Sawgrass Mills Mall’s new outlet store, The Webster, the difference between a designer top this month and the same top next month can be hundreds of dollars.

Alexander McQueen dresses, Christian Dior shoes and Givenchy bags slip off the shelves and racks in the three-level, multi-brand Miami Beach boutique, The Webster. And while the store, located on South Beach since 2009, offers a comprehensive shopping experience to many of its celebrity clientele in search of the season’s funkiest, casual and colorful brand name items, the true finds are now happening in Broward County.

The Advantage

As The Webster Miami and the retailer’s newest location in Bal Harbor swap out products in their showrooms for what’s new, unsold items venture north to the company’s outlet store at Sawgrass Mills Mall. Upon entrance, the price for each designer label is knocked down at least 40 percent. That’s right—the Alexander Wang cropped jacket you were eyeing on the runway is now $600, not the $1,000 it was just last month. And, while items upfront are only one season behind, as shoppers venture toward the back of the store, they find older items at even greater discount prices. At times, designer items can receive a markdown as high as 80 percent.

The Clothing

“I’ve never worked in a place where there’s such a melting pot of different people,” says store manager Matthew Maloney. This is because the mini department store hosts a vast variety of merchandise. Men’s and women’s clothing, shoes, accessories and bags range from offbeat and uncommon to conservative and mainstream. Jackets built with bold textures and jewelry incorporating chunky, gold chains display next to pumps and simple flat-brim hats. “It’s kind of a healthy combo of both,” Maloney says of the store’s diversity.

The Location

The outlet store, stationed along the high-end, outdoor shopping wing of Sawgrass Mills, The Colonnade, was established in November. It resides across from Gucci, Armani and Prada, but as Maloney says, he’s never seen The Webster’s products repeated in another store. He credits the company’s founder and owner Laure Heriard Dubreuil, who runs the buying process, for her ability to select pieces other stores won’t have in stock.
