How to look your best before South Florida’s society photographers this season.
James Boehmer, global director of artistry of NARS, has created Fashion Week looks for designers like Vivienne Westwood, Alice + Olivia and Charlotte Ronson. Knowing a little something about prepping skin for photos, he teaches how to always be on our beauty A-game when subjected to poor lighting conditions and bright camera bulbs.
Flawless foundation
“If your skin is in good shape, a sheer liquid foundation or even a tinted moisturizer can provide enough coverage. If skin texture or condition is compromised, you’ll want to go for a liquid or cream foundation that is buildable for more coverage. I like to apply product with my hands, as the warmth from your hands helps the makeup to blend seamlessly with the skin.”

Shine control
“After applying your complexion products, set with translucent loose powder, the key to a shine-free finish. It’s also a good idea to carry a powder compact that you can apply right before you arrive at your event. Pay close attention to the center of the face – around the nose, between eyebrows, around the mouth and chin, forehead. If these areas have shine, the whole face can look greasy.”

Lucious lips
“If lips are too pale they can disappear in photos. If you’re wearing a dramatic eye, go for a more a beige or barely there color – just make sure that the lip is contoured and defined so it doesn’t blend in to the rest of the face. Start with a lip liner that is similar in tone to your natural lip, line and fill in. Set with a bit of loose powder to diffuse the opacity. Apply your color and blot. Matte shades will wear longer, and photograph beautifully! Apply a bit of gloss just to the center of the lips for more dimension.”

Emphasizing eyes
“The details are very important when it comes to photography. You want to make sure the colors are well blended. Colors that are too dark can often read as heavy or garish, depending on the lighting conditions. Soft smoky eyes, maybe with warm metallic tones, always look great. I love to rim the inner eye with a nude eyeliner to make eyes appear brighter and more open in photos, and it works with any eye look.”
